Is This Thing On? #12

Hello, and welcome to another episode of "Is This Thing On?" (Download MP3 or listen to the stream) * As this will probably be the last podcast before the New Year, I'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Festive Yule, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year. * I started the show by playing some beautiful classical music, "The Lady" by Graeme Hindmarsh. * Chatting with Daire, another of my fellow Master Vampires on VampireRave.com. - He picked the music I used on this podcast. * Daire has a fine sense of humor, as is evidenced by his tolerance of my mispronouncing his name. - Everybody say it with me: Dehr-uh. * He finally set me straight and mentioned that Daire is not a common name in Ireland. - In fact, he only recently met another gent named Daire at the Christmas Party he recently attended. - They played Drunken Twister. With 50 college girls. - It was a "fancy dress" party (costume party for us Yanks) where he went dressed as the Ghost Of Corporate Christmas. - He lives in Dunboyne, County Meath, which is near Dublin in Ireland. * We talked a little about his Household on VR, Caomhnóir-an-Eolas -- pronounced quiv-nor on e-olas, which means "Guardians of Knowledge" in Gaelic. * He took notes from the last podcast about and read them on the 'cast. - For all of our teasing, he's a great guy who just doesn't take any crap. That's why we tease him, and he's quite capable of teasing back. We love that about him. * I had to be a geek and ask him about Doctor Who, to find out if he gets to watch it there on the BBC in Ireland. - On reflection, it was a stupid question, but it allowed me to vent about the fact that even the Canadians get Dr. Who but us Yanks don't! * We talked a bit about VampireRadio.com and Acrimony.org, Cancer's websites before VampireRave.com. * He goes to school in Dublin at the Dublin Institute of Technology, in his second of four years in Photography (Bachelor of Arts). - You can see some of his photos in his portfolio on VampireRave.com. * We talked about accents. Irish vs. American. * He's a huge fan of Batman, so we spent a good deal of time discussing the greatness of the Dark Knight. - "He's a bad-ass with class." - We both loved "Batman Begins", the best Batman movie ever. - We compared this to Frank Miller's "Sin City", which was a great comic but I thought that movie was atrocious. * Daire gets stalked on VR, and gets no sympathy from me. * We talked a bit about his VR crest, which features his dog on it. - His dog likes to hunt his food -- including a bit of cheese Daire gave him. - He picked the dog for his crest to represent loyalty, bravery, and obedience. - But chose a representation of a stag for intelligence, dignity, and nobility. * We talked about the Hangman game on VR. - He had some of the words in his VR journal, so we then started talking about his journal entries. - Daire Wearing Heels! - After Drunken Twister... - "Please don't suspend me but..." * Back to his Notes for what to talk about next... * Daire is planning to go to Burning Man 2006 and camp with folks from VampireRave. - Cancer is planning a big theme camp there. - Daire was hassled on his last trip to America. - He also mentioned when he was here around St. Patrick's Day and how weird that was. * And then the cursing and insults commenced - turn it off now to avoid the profanity!! * I wrapped up the show by playing something with a little more bite; a song called "Buried Alive" by Osiris Rising. Is This Thing On? #11

Hello, and welcome to another episode of "Is This Thing On?" (Download and listen now) * We hope you had a good Thanksgiving and aren't going too crazy with holiday shopping. * We started the show by playing "Weightless With Love" by Sarah Wendt. * Chatting with Jason and Brianne (Khayman) from VampireRave.com. - We started talking about the Vampire Households we were just charged with running on VR. Jason's Crest is very cool so we asked him to tell us about how he created it. - Then we just talked about how cool VampireRave.com is. * New words of wisdumb from EMILY SAYS... "The best way to lose weight is to drink hot water and lemon, because the hot water burns the fat in the body." Sorry Emily. * Then we discussed our respective jobs, past and present. * Then we talked about Jason's woodland creature avatars... but he does not have a squirrel fetish. * Which bridges us to Khayman's bejewelled lips avatar. * We were talking about avatars, squirrels, and more and then Jason wantted to read a joke email he got about Raggot the gerbil. - So while digging we talked about upcoming holidays. Calendar of Events and Holidays - View Events for week of Dec. 11 - Subscribe to RSS calendar - Download/Subscribe to Interfaith iCal calendar. - Other events and information about December, from Wikipedia. * I talked a bit about the Interfaith calendar I'm putting together. - I'm considering selling for a small profit and donating 100% of the profit to Hurricane Katrine relief. * Jason bridged that to telling us about another user on VR, Angelpie, who had her own horror story about Katrina and subsequent hurricanes to Florida. - Jason's house in Mississippi is only now getting work done to the roof. - Jason said he was reading The Gulf Coast News to stay informed. - Jason was in the Persian Gulf when this all happened. He's in the Merchant Marines. * Khayman is "totally digging mommyhood." - She swears by Carnation GoodStart. - No problems with Jackson digesting it, even though she claims he has more gas than the Middle East. * We talked about "Steel Magnolias" and other comedies, including... - Blue Collar Comedy Tour - Red Green's Duct Tape Forever and his show (on PBS in the states) - BlackAdder BBC show (on PBS in the states) - Johnny English, also starring Rowan Atkinson - The Blues Brothers * Finally he read the email about the Gerbil... - http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/gerbil.asp * Things you find in your first apartment - Khayman's iguana tale... * We wrapped up the show by playing "Heres Us" by Sarah Wendt.
